Gemini Man

A man in this Zodiac has a thin long and proportional face. He has a high forehead and very cleaver. He looks like he can not stand or sit still, a very fast person. His nose is just right in size, thin lips, talk fast and very talkative. He can think faster than he talks, but once he starts talking, he will talk non stop as if god has gifted him with that special talk machine mouth.

He likes to cut his hair short and he is very athletic. He is a tall, slim and every movement of his is “Fast” or nearly calls “Hyperactive”. He has long fingers and always tapping on table or moving his finger as if he is trying to grab something. He is the type, who will write or scribble on paper, he never stays still. His hair always well comb or neat.

He will spend a long time to comb his hair. He will keep his manicure and pedicure clean. He is a well dress and clean guy, so if you like cleanliness, you will love him. He will keep all his cloth in big closet, and never throw away even shirts he never wear any more, but yet he still keep buying new cloths and make sure he is in style. He knows how to dress well even with a low budget. He gets bored easily with his favorite cloths, cologne.

He is very picky, so soap and his cologne even have to be in the same trend or same scent. If you date this kind of guy, you might think you are dating 2 guys, you will have to guess his feeling and emotion. Is he doing thing because it is a duty, or is it because he wants to? He changes his mind as fast as he changes a new pairs of shoes.

He can pick up a book and roughly read through and understand its contents, so if you see a Gemini man who reads the whole book, then he must be influenced by other Zodiac. He hates to set fix schedule, and dislike a boring same routine job. He could hardly be on time, and can only keep time if it is complete important and necessary.

He does not come late because he forgets, but because he always fined other attractions along the way. He likes to act opposite to what he wants to do. He is a very good speaker and makes a very good politician. He can easily persuade other people and well presented himself in public, a real charmer. If he is a writer, he will write the best seller. He always searches for truth and constantly studies himself.

He never satisfies about his fame, his reputation or money, because he thinks he deserved more. He will keep searching even he is not sure what is his ultimate satisfaction. Woman in love normally wants to feel secure and stable, but if you fall in love with this guy be prepared to be alone. He will come to see you when he feels like it. He won’t even know how he spent his day everyday, so adjust yourself if you love him.

Dating him is like dating 2 guys, so today he can tell you how much he loves you, but tomorrow he might call you to cancel your date. When he upsets, he could tell you he hates your dress, even it is the same dress he used to tell you make you look very sexy. Do not ask him why he is that’s way for he won’t have any explanations too. When he is back to normal mood, he will take you out again and forget what just happened.

You can not expect him to be the same person now, and forever. His changes will depend on you, for better or for worst. If you like to take risk and dare for challenges, you will get along with him fine. He keeps his emotional secretly as if hiding it, so you will not be able to see if he is in love with you, or does not give a damn at all, but be calm and patient. He will never leave you if he thinks you are a puzzle, and then he will spend times solving this puzzle.

Gemini Best & Worst Relationship Matches

Gemini

Ah, the Gemini, witty and eloquent, the life of the party, and a great lover to boot .if you can keep him/her interested for long enough to settle down. Sometimes the Gemini in your life can be a humming bird, flitting from one interest to the next, and then they can be the serious intellectual, moving from one stimulating idea to the next with the ease of their own air sign. This means that as much they may want to be happy, the Gemini strives to bring discordant notes into harmony, disjunctive ideas into synthesis, and may even try to bring your, as they may perceive, jumbled existence into greater balance. This type of relationship can be fraught with all sorts of perils but can also be a great learning and growing experience.

One of the best parts of learning to love, or simply learning to be around a Gemini is knowing that they are the mimic of the horoscope’s cycle. They can be whatever you want them to be, and may in fact see what you are looking for in a lover and become that. They can be a roaring Leo, or a fiery Aries, a stable Taurus or a pensive Pisces. They can say all the right things and do the romantic dinners or long walks, if that is what you are looking for. This is why they have such great success with the opposite sex, and can attract the attention of even the most unlikely of personalities. It is important to remember that in spite of this great ability to adapt and change to meet the challenge of being your favourite lover, a Gemini is only mimicking and in the end you must love the curious mind, and schizophrenic behaviour that defines his/her life.

One of the Gemini’s biggest challenges and at the same time greatest attributes as a partner is their desire to understand how you tick (I can see Gemini’s partners, friends and lovers all shaking their heads right now in complete agreement). This requires lots of questions and investigation into your head and heart, which can satisfy most people deep seeded narcissism, but can also be a little unnerving. This curiosity is inextricably linked to a Gemini’s need to understand all the things around them. This understanding can end up meaning that once they feel as though they have you figured out, their interest may wane.

There are some dark sides to the Gemini character. Much of their weakness lies in shortness of their attention span. The love of new and shifting things can sometimes outweigh the importance of settling into a routine and enjoying the more familiar aspects of day-to-day existence. In short Gemini lovers can be heartbreakers. They go full tilt into love and then, when bored, can toss aside people without too much thought, moving on to something new and more exciting. These qualities can hurt those around them, and eventually leave them alone and wondering where all the people in their life have gone. Gemini’s tend to have high divorce rates precisely because of this tendency. Give them a chance and they will one-minute love the girl next door, and in the next moment run after the dominatrix with her whips and chains.

Give your Gemini lover a chance and they will keep you on your toes, but make sure that you stay true to your own nature and don’t bend too much or ask too little, or you may find yourself and the blinding will of their capricious nature.

Best Relationship Matches

Libra This is your best match. They have just enough in common with you and just enough that’s different.

Aquarius Just capricious enough for you.

Leo At first you may be attracted, but this pairing is ultimately unstable.

Worst Relationship Matches

Taurus Too slow for you

Cancer Too stable and domestic

Pisces Too emotionally needy you’d hurt them far too often

Luck & Good Fortune

Luck is defined as that which happens to a person...an event, good or ill...which affects an individual's interests or happiness and which is deemed causal. It is a series of such events which are regarded as occurring by chance, fate or fortune...often, a person's habitual or characteristic fortune. It has been said that luck is better than skill.

In Greek Mythology, the Goddess of Luck is Tyche, known to the Romans as Fortuna. She is often portrayed holding a double-sided rudder that could steer mankind to good or bad luck. She also frequently holds a cornucopia (horn of plenty) to symbolize prosperity and is sometimes blindfolded to indicate that luck is a matter of "blind chance." In addition, Tyche occasionally sports wings to symbolize how good fortune might be fleeting. A ball, representative of the manner in which luck "rolls according to chance" is often associated with this Goddess. Tyche is said to teach the paradoxical message that life is essentially a game of dice, determined by chance, and that nothing is ever set in stone. No matter how certain an individual might be that something will happen, there is always an underlying element of chance, and it would be wise to expect the unexpected. Instead of submission to Fate, Tyche provides the encouragment for individuals to take things into their own hands, thus making their own destiny. In was in Tyche's temple that the first set of dice were dedicated by Palamedes, perhaps indicating the capriciousness of life and luck...and the fickle manner in which the fortunes of mortals are often decided.

"Luck affects everything;
Let your hook always be cast;
In the stream where you least expect it,
There will be a fish."
-- Ovid --

Number

The lucky number for Gemini is five (also known as the Pentad). Natives of Gemini share this number with those governed by the Sign of Virgo. Five represents sensuality and symbolizes freedom, variety, adventure and the senses. It is the golden mean, representative of all that is part of human nature (including sex, drugs, alcohol and other forms of indulgence). In geometry, five is the magic pentagram...the universal symbol of man, representing the body with five points (head, two arms and two legs) as well as the five physical senses. Throughout history, the pentagram has been invoked as a symbol of protection, particularly in Egypt where the five-pointed star enclosed in a circle was the symbol for the Duat. Five is an important number of great significance, being in the center of the Decad. To the Ancients, it symbolized marriage because it was the sum of three (the first male or odd number) and two (the first female or even integer). Thus, it was considered sacred to the Goddess Aphrodite and also had strong associations with Eros. Five signifies the five regular geometric solids, whose faces are equilateral and equitangular: tetrahedron, cube, octahedron (eight faces), dodecahedron (twelve faces) and icosahedron (twenty faces). Five is considered to be the "just middle," since by dividing any combination of numbers which add up to ten, five is always in the middle. Known to be the number of ordered space and time, it contains a powerful invoking formula of spirituality, knowledge, wisdom, freedom and love. The Ancient Romans would incorporate this number into a talisman in order to ward off the forces of evil. Five is considered an extremely complex number, perceived as both fortunate and unfortunate, expressing an action rather than a state. This number is said to be everywhere, but elusively nowhere. The five-pointed star in a circle (correctly named a "pentacle") is representative of the species of humanity...symbolic of the head, arms and legs of an individual standing "spread-eagled," as represented by the points of a star. A "peverted pentagram," however, depicts the points of the star to represent the horns, whiskers and beard of the mythological goat's head of the Christian Satan. In Eastern traditions, making the sign of five is manifesting life. It possesses a deep connection to Eros, the God of Love. In dreams, an individual often runs into five in connection with the search for genuine involvement in life. Eros and the willingness to form a union are at the heart of this number.

In biblical numerology, five is the Number of Grace and Redemption. Israel came out of Egypt five in rank, David selected five smooth stones with which to fight Goliath and the Holy Anointing Oil was pure, composed of five parts. It is also a symbol of the Universe...its two axes (vertical and horizontal) passing through the same center. It is also representative of the will of God, which can only desire order and perfection.

Five is masculine in nature and, when associated with Gemini, resides in the Third House of Communication, governing logic, memory and manual skills. Five is also known as the Quintessence...the mystic fifth element of which the heavens are composed. The Pythagorean theorum states that in a right triangle, five is the square root of the sum of the squares of the two previous numbers, three and four. It is also considered a number of importance in that humankind has five senses, five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot, as well as five wits (common sense, imagination, fantasy, estimation and memory). In biblical terms, five denotes divine grace or divine proportion, representative of God adding His gifts and blessings to the work of His hands. It is also said that Jesus suffered from five wounds. The colors associated with the number five are mixed and light in hue. Its peak is both night and day, with its natural element being air and its associated gems being diamonds and yellow sapphires.

Color

The lucky color for Gemini is yellow. Yellow is the color associated with Mercury. By tradition, it is thought to have a happy effect on its wearer, as well as stimulating the intellect and bringing vitality. It is also believed to signify the color of money rather than of love and is believed to be a favored color to wear when beginning a new job. Yellow is said to give confidence to the shy and timid, but should not be worn when anything to be undertaken requires patient attention to detail. Throughout the ages, yellow has been representative of wisdom and intellect. Indeed, Buddha always dressed his priests in robes of this color. Yellow lamps or glass windows are said to stimulate the nerves of the brain and the body. Thus, they should not be used by highly nervous subjects. Yellow predominates in all herbs which are purgatives or nerve-stimulants, such as senna , sulfur, fig juice, tartar and castor oil. In general, yellow symbolizes joy, happiness, optimism and idealism. But, on the more negative side, it is also associated with dishonesty, cowardice, deceit and illness.

The yellow wavelength is relatively long and essentially stimulating. However, in this case, the stimulus is emotional. Thus, yellow is considered to be the strongest color in a psychological sense. Indeed, it is the second strongest of all primary colors. Yellow demolishes the limitations and runs out of any form. It also approaches things and makes distances appear shorter. When painted yellow, objects reflect the light exceedingly well and attract the attention. The correct shade of yellow can lift the spirits and bolster self-esteem. It is the color of confidence and optimism. However, too much yellow...or the wrong shade of yellow in relation to the other tones of a color scheme...can cause self-esteem to plummet, giving rise to fear and anxiety. In short, the "yellow streak" present in all humans can surface under such circumstances. In Christian worship, art, architecture and design, yellow symbolizes light and purity. It denotes youth, happiness, the harvest, hospitality, love and benevolence. It is the most open and joyful color...one which is directed toward the future. It is both sociable and restless, eccentric and quick. However, since yellow is also perceived as being off-white, it can be the color of degradation or cowardice. Yellow corresponds to the form of a six-ray star, running out at the sides. In heraldry, yellow is symbolic of honor and loyalty.

Positive Qualities Of Yellow: Optimism - Confidence - Self-Esteem - Extraversion - Emotional Strength - Friendliness - Creativity
Negative Qualities Of Yellow: Irrationality - Fear - Emotional Fragility - Depression - Anxiety - Suicide

Gemini individuals tend to be drawn to bright blues, bright greens and all geometric patterns, with a distinct preference for cheerful shades. They also gravitate toward complicated designs that require thought to interpret and which may contain many different elements. The patterns of choice are usually associated with lines rather than curves, although the personal taste of individuals governed by this Sign are liable to change from day-to-day. Gemini natives often find the healing rays of orange to be most beneficial.

Other Favorable Colors: Pink - White - Red - Bright Brown - Bright Black - Variegated Colors
Unvavorable Colors: Steel Grey - Dull Brown - Faded Colors

Flower

The lucky flower for Gemini is the lily-of-the-valley, a fragrant garden flower whose blossoms resemble tiny pure-white bells. It is also known as constancy, Our Lady's Tears and Jacob's Ladder. In Germany, it is known as the mayflower. The scientific name of this flower is Majalis or Maialis, which means "that which belongs to May," and is believed to be in honor of Maia, daughter of Atlas and the mother of the God Mercury. Cherished and revered in many countries for its symbolism and folklore, lily-of-the-valley has been extensively used for medicinal purposes. It was once believed to strengthen memory, restore speech to those who could not speak and to treat gout. As a liquor smeared on the forehead and back of the neck, it was also thought to encourage an individual to have good common sense. In addition, it has been credited with the power to give manankind the ability to envision a better world. Famous for its delightful scent, a French toilet water called eau d'or is made from this plant's flowers. Nevertheless, despite its alleged beneficial traits, all parts of this plant are considered poisonous.

There are many legends surrounding this flower. Considered to be a symbol of humility in religious painting, the lily-of-the-valley is mentioned in the Bible's Song of Solomon. Some cultures deem it to be a sign of Christ's second coming. One legend holds that Mary's tears turned to lily-of-the-valley when she wept at the foot of the cross. According to Greek Mythology, Apollo gave this plant as a gift to Aesculapius, God of Healing. Believed to signify the return of happiness, folklore tells of the affection of this flower for a nightingale that did not come back to the woods until the flower bloomed in May. Thus, its fragrance is credited with the power to draw the nightingale from hedge to bush, leading him to choose his mate in the recesses of the glade. In the language of flowers, the meaning of the lily-of-the-valley is sweetness, humility and perfect purity.

A French folktale involving the origins of this plant tells of a holy man known as Saint Leonard, close friend of King Clovis, who lived in the Vienne Valley near Limoges in 559 A.D. Saint Leonard, a brave and fearless fighter, desired to spend his days among the flowers and trees communing with God. So, he asked for permission to live in the woods. There, he lived the life of a hermit, having renounced all worldly things. However, in the same woods also dwelt the dragon known as Temptation. Saint Leonard was at prayer and failed to hear the dragon when it demanded that Saint Leonard leave the woods. Its command having been presumably ignored, the dragon burned down Saint Leonard's hut with its fiery breath. Much blood was spilled as terrible battles raged between the holy man and the beast but eventually, Saint Leonard proved to be the victor and drove the evil dragon further and further into the woods until it disappeared altogether. Poisonous weeds began to sprout where the dragon had spilled its blood, but beds of lillies-of-the-valley sprang up wherever the ground had been sprinkled with the blood of Saint Leonard.

Gemstone

The lucky gemstone of an individual is truly associated with the month of birth rather than the Sign under which a person was born. The original association of a special gem with each month was recorded in the Bible (Exodus 28 and 39). An original Breastplate of Aaron, High Priest of the Hebrews, was said to be made by Moses in 1250 BC, according to instructions he received during his forty days spent in the mountains. The twelve gems in the breastplate were later linked with the Signs of the Zodiac and later still, associated with the months in the year. What follows describes the breastplate of the High Priest:

It was square -- a span [22 centimetres] long and a span wide -- and folded double. Then they mounted four rows of precious stones on it. In the first row there was a ruby, a topaz and a beryl; in the second row a turquoise, a sapphire and an emerald; in the third row a jacinth, an agate and an amethyst; in the fourth row a chrysolite, an onyx and a jasper. They were mounted in gold filigree settings. There were twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
(Old Testament, New International Version, Exodus, Chapter 39, vs. 9-14)

The precise identification of some of these precious stones is uncertain. For example, in the same passage of the Revised Standard Version of Exodus, diamonds, sardius, and carbuncle (an alternative name for the garnet) are also included in the list of twelve biblically significant gemstones. It should also be kept in mind that aquamarines and emeralds are forms of beryl, while sardonyx is a form of onyx, and jacinth and chrysolite are also known respectively as zircon and peridot.

Who first beholds the light of day / In Spring's sweet flowerly month of May / And wears an Emerald so they state / Shall be a loved and loving mate

The lucky gem for Gemini individuals born in May is the emerald. They share this fortunate jewel with those Taurus individuals who were also born during the same month. The emerald is a sparkling-green precious stone of the beryl group. Its color is caused by small amounts of chromium and vanadium, which are enhanced by traces of iron. The highest quality emerald is a transparent grass-green. As one of the most expensive gemstones, it is often more valuable than a diamond. The first emeralds came from the Egyptian desert near the Red Sea. The emerald is a traditional symbol of constancy and true affection. Its name is derived from the Greek smaragdos, which means "green stone" and it was highly prized by the Ancients as the gemstone of love and rebirth. It is said to give its owner the gift of eloquence. The Moguls of India, including Shah Jahan, builder of the Taj Mahal, admired emeralds so much they inscribed them with sacred text and wore them as talismans.

Races as far apart as the Egyptians and the Incas of Peru considered the emerald as a stone of the Gods and it has been treasured since at least 4000 B.C., when it was traded in the gem markets of Babylon. Later, the Mohammedians also believed it to possess godly powers and a rough emerald inscribed with a verse of the Koran was a talisman of immortaility. A highly-polished emerald was once believed to have the power of restoring failing eyesight and Nero, while watching the gladiators in the arena, would use an emerald to lengthen his vision. It was formerly used in the treatment of inflamed eyes...made into a lotion by being steeped in water or sometimes crushed and powdered first. Cleopatra prized her emeralds more than any other jewels. This stone is reputed to bring security in love. It is also said to allow access to the mystery that an individual holds deepest in his or her heart, thereby healing and activating the highest heart's desire. Believed to assist in the healing of eyesight and speech impediments, the emerald is thought to have a tranquilizing effect on the heart and mind by inspiring clam and clear assurance. According to legend, this stone will strengthen the owner's memory, quicken the intelligence and assist in predicting the future.

In Greek mythology, Hermes composed a tablet carved from a giant emerald as a gift for Aphrodite. In the Book of Revelations, emerald is said to compose the throne of God and the Holy Grail is said to be carved from a huge emerald which fell from Satan's crown upon his banishment from Heaven. In Hebrew lore, emeralds were one of the four precious stones given to Solomon. Legend states that if an emerald is given by one sweetheart to another, it will pale and grow dull when the love between them fades. The emerald is the traditional gem for the 20th, 35th and 55th Wedding Anniversaries. It is also known as the Spring Gemstone.

Who comes with Summer to this Earth / And owes to June their hour of birth / With ring of Agate on their hand / Can health, wealth and long life command

The lucky gem for Gemini individuals born in June is the agate. They share this fortunate jewel with those Cancer individuals who were also born in the same month. The agate is one of the most versatile of all semi-precious stones and its mystical qualities were once thought to bring health and long life to the wearer. This gem is a form of quartz consisting of chalcedony, amethyst or jasper, and ordinary quartz in bands or lines. It forms in cavities and veins by deposition from meteoric groundwater containing gelatinous silica from the weathering of silicate minerals. One common type of agate is petrified wood, which has become fossilized by having its organic matter replaced by this stone. Agates were first found on the banks of the Achates (now known as the Drillo) in Sicily and were named for that river. Indeed, these waters remain a major source of the gemstone. Agates come is a great variety of designs and colors...some are translucent and some are opaque. Occasionally, this stone displays alternate lines of red and white, while others have ocellated markings. Moss agate has detailing which resembles trees, ferns or moss and is considered especially lucky for gardeners or people connected with the soil, and acts as an aid to get in touch with nature. Stones which bear the image of a tree are believed to help with introspection, enabling an idividual to perceive himself or herself with more clarity and see the world through a broader viewpoint. Blue lace agate is thought to wash away clutter and static from the mind and spirit by relieving stress. Agates were often affixed by the ancient farmers to the horns of their oxen in order to insure fertile crops. Usually cut as a cabochon (smooth oval) since it lends itself particularly well for carving and polishing, the agate is one of the oldest stones known to man and has always been popular, particularly in the fashioning of amulets and as talismans, which were credited with great curative powers.

In ancient times, the agate was believed to bestow the gift of eloquence and was often worn to prevent headaches, relieve tiredness of the eyes and allay skin irritations. The stone was also thought to cure insomnia and bless the owner with pleasant dreams. The agate is an ancient stone, valued since the virtual dawn of time. The Egyptians are known to have used it prior to 3,000 B.C. and it has been found among the artifacts of Stone Age man in France (20,000 B.C. to 16,000 B.C.). Some of the earliest known primitive stone tools (such as axes) were fashioned from agate by the ancestors of man in the Omo Valley of Ethiopia, the stone being used because of its hardness and isotropic brittleness, which made it possible to shape such tools with relative ease. Legend states that any person who looks upon an agate will be compelled to speak the truth and unable to maintain secrecy. Agates were also once thought to promote grace, good manners, happiness, intelligence and good health, as well as bestowing the wearer with a pleasing personality which encouraged the friendship of others. In medieval times, the wearing of agate was said to bring God's favor and make one agreeable and persuasive, granting victory and strength to the wearer while affording protection from all dangers. The early Greeks made amulets of agate to protect them from the perils of the sea. Hindu mystics believe this jewel can help children overcome their fears, learn to walk earlier and maintain their balance, thereby preventing hazardous falls. In Persia, agate was once used to divert storms. Throughout history, this gem has been credited by various cultures with the ability to quench the thirst and affort protection from fevers. According to the Romany Gypsies, this jewel brings great wealth to the wearer.

A famous collection of 2,000 to 4,000 agate bowls was accumulated by Mithradates, King of Persia, which indicates the high regard once held for this jewel. Queen Elizabeth I of England was presented with an agate by Archbishop Parker. This gift was accompanied by a manuscript which described the gem's alleged miraculous powers. In the British Museum, there is displayed an Egyptian agate with a likeness of the poet Chaucer on both sides. It was once believed that the powers of the agate would be strengthened by the wearing of the chrysoprase, another lucky Gemini stone, which is a type of chalcedony and is said to symbolize cheerfulness. The agate is said to bring nothing but bad luck to natives of Virgo and Pisces, who would be well advised not to wear this stone in any form. Agate is the traditional gem for the 12th Wedding Anniversary, while moss agate is the traditional gem for the 14th Wedding Anniversary.

Day

The lucky day for those who fall under the jurisdiction of Virgo is Wednesday. The origin of this day derives from Norse Mythology and Woden or Odin, God of Widsom, Knowledge and Poetry. It was believed that Woden held power over all the other Gods and Goddesses. Thus, the Anglo-Saxons named Wednesday in honor of the Chief of all their Gods, calling it Wodnesdaeg or Woden's Tag. According to legend, Woden formed the Earth from the body of a massive giant named Ymir and fashioned humankind from oak trees and elm trees.

Folklore states that more than anything, Woden desired to be wise. In his quest for wisdom, he traveled the world and in order to gain such wisdom and knowledge, was required to sacrifice one of his eyes for a drink at Mimir's Well. After doing so, he wore a large hat with a floppy brim to cover the vacant socket. Woden's constant companions were two blackbirds which perched upon his shoulders. They acted as his spies, flying down to Earth at night in order to gather information regarding the people who dwelt below, and then reporting back to their master each morning. Therefore, Woden always knew what was transpiring on Earth and many things had to be done in secret for fear of the God's disapproval. In Asgard, the Nordic version of Olympus, Woden rode upon an eight-footed horse. He was a powerful magician, sorcerer and healer, and sailors would call on him to provide a fair wind. When early Christians began converting the Saxons to their faith, they named Woden as the Devil.

Wednesday is often referred to as "hump day" because of its position as the middle day of the work week. In other words, if the work week were a hill, then Wednesday would be the crest and it would be all downhill from there. Only one holiday typically recurs annually on a Wednesday...Ash Wednesday, which is the official begining of Lent. Ash Wednesday is so called because since the 400s, it has been the day upon which the foreheads of religious penitents are marked with ash. This custom is a reminder of the mortal condition of the flesh...that every human is dust. The actual date of Ash Wednesday is variable and dependent upon the date on which Easter falls. According to an ancient rhyme, Wednesday's child is full of woe.

Ruling Planet & Mythology

Ruling Planet

Gemini is dominated by Mercury, the planet which also governs Virgo and will continue to do so until a new planet is discovered to take its place for one of those Signs...the probability being that the new planet (likely to be given the name of Vulcan) will became ruler of Virgo, leaving Mercury with sole jurisdiction over The Twins. Mercury is named for the winged Messenger God of Roman myth and is representative of adaptability...making the most of what is available and fitting into different surroundings. Mercury individuals tend to conform with the ideals and morals which are most fashionable at any given time. They never remain still for very long and cannot be "pinned down" on anything. The Mercury character has a young, almost "Peter Panish" quality.

In an astrological sense, the influence of Mercury is associated chiefly with the mind. It is the giver of wisdom and signifies the progression from the purely instinctive realm of the animal kingdom by the use of the intellect. Mercury represents ideas, methods and information...progressing through experimentation and invention. This planet is associated with children prior to puberty and thus, is connected to tricks, jokes, youthfulness and light-heartedness. Mercury rules all forms of communication (telephone calls, letters and speech, for example). It also rules the sciences, curiosity, manner of thought and travel. Mercury is also associated with merchants, commerce and mental pursuits. "Wheeling and dealing" fall within the jurisdiction of this planet...as do lying and cheating. It has been said that individuals born under the influence of Mercury are experts at "bursting the bubbles" of others, pricking the pretensions of those around them and forcing the re-examination of personal attitudes. Needles to say, this is a talent not always universally admired...and most assuredly not by its victims.

As a planetary influence, Mercury is neutral, displaying neither feminine nor masculine qualities but focused chiefly on processing the facts, data and communications which make up an important part of everyday life. It symbolizes fluidity overcoming rigidity and is thus the champion of new beginnings, upsetting conventional attitudes and blazing trails for invention and change. The message of Mercury is one of personal transformation...a bridging of the gap between the self and its potentials. Mercury is the magician...the alchemist who magically transforms words into substance. It is said to figure strongly in the computerized age with its advances in information and communication.

Items particularly associated with Mercury are: azaleas and lilies-of the valley; walnut and hazelnut trees; carrots and celery; monkeys, parrots, foxes and greyhounds. Not surprisingly, the metal quicksilver is also linked to Mercury while the semi-precious stones associated with this planet are: topaz; agate and aquamarine. Wednesday is considered an especially lucky day for those who are governed by Mercury, while the associated special colors are: saffron yellow, azure blue and the sparkle of sunlight upon water. This planet is said to relate to the intellect, the nervous system and the thyroid gland, as well as the senses of hearing, sight and touch.

Free-thinking and intelligent
You will not find me under rigorous management
You may think you know me well
Then my other half over you casts a spell
I am Gemini - Child of Mercury

The great moral lesson to be learned by the chidren of Mercury is a relatively easy one...they must learn to mean what they say.

Celestial

Mercury has been known since at least the time of the Sumerians, and is one of the five planets acknowledged by the Ancients (who referred to these planets a "wandering stars"). Mercury was given two names by the Greeks...Apollo for its apparition as a morning star and Hermes as an evening one. However, Greek astronomers were well aware that the two designations referred to the same heavenly body. The given Greek name of Hermes was later translated by the Romans to Mercurius...an early alias of what later became the God Mercury. To the Teutonic people, this planet was named for their God Woden.

Until 1962, it was thought that Mercury's "day" was the same length as its "year," thus keeping the same "face" to the Sun (much as the Moon does to the Earth). This was proven false in 1965 by doppler radar observations. It is now known that Mercury rotates three times in two of its years. The atmosphere of this planet is very thin and insubstantial, being comprised chiefly of oxygen, helium and sodium. Its temperature ranges are the most extreme of the solar system and Mercury is a desolate planet whose surface is heavily cratered (similar to that of the Moon). Scars sculpted by billions of years of asteroid impacts are believed to have remained largely unchanged since they were formed, due to the fact that there is almost no erosion (or other process) to modify or obliterate them. The terrain of this planet also features enormous steep slopes and long cliffs. Mercury is the second only to Earth is being the densest major body in the solar system. It has a relatively thin silicate mantle and crust, with an interior dominated by a large iron core (approximately the size of the Earth's Moon), at least part of which is generally assumed to be molten in nature. The surface temperature on the side of Mercury closest to the Sun is estimated to reach 427 degrees Celsuius...a temperature hot enough to melt tin. The side which faces away from the Sun (also known as the "night side") can drop in temperature to -183 degrees Celsius. In other words, Mercury literally bakes and freezes at the same time. Scientists have detected an internal magnetic field surrounding Mercury, although this field is not as strong as that around the Earth. Mercury is the second smallest planet in the Solar System, being about one-third the size of the Earth. It was once believed to be smaller than Pluto, but this was later found to be incorrect. Thus, Pluto is actually the tiniest planet. However, Mercury is the fastest in its orbit due to it being the innermost planet to the Sun. On average, it moves at 29 miles per second. In fact, the name "Mercury" is derived from the speed with which this planet moves.

Information regarding Mercury became more accessible with radar imaging from the Earth in the 1960s. Most of what is known about this planet today was received from the Mariner 10 space probe, which was placed into a complicated orbit involving Venus and Mercury, and which passed close to Mercury three times from 1974 through 1976. One day on Mercury is equal to approximately three months on Earth and it travels around the Sun every eighty-eight days. Its orbit is wildly eccentric and more elliptical (i.e, non-circular) than any other Planet...with the exception of Pluto. Mercury is a dark world...the darkest major body in the Solar System, reflecting a mere 11% of the sunlight which strikes its surface. The planet spins counterclockwise (as does the Earth) and also orbits in the same direction. Thus far, the only data collected regarding Mercury is limited in detail to less than half of the planet's surface. Mercury is unique in its geological history in that it has experienced a global system of fractures caused by shrinkage of the planet. Some scientists believe that Mercury continues to shrink somewhat with the passing of each year. Since the atmosphere is so slight, the sky when viewed from this planet would appear pitch-black (except for the Sun, stars and other planets, when visible), even during the day. In addition, Mercury has no "greenhouse effect." Thus, there are no seasons.

One of the largest features on the "wrinkled" surface of Mercury is the Caloris Basin (approximately 1300 km in diameter...large enough to hold the entire State of Texas), which is believed to have been caused by a very large impact early in the history of the solar system. The planet does display regions of relatively smooth plains, which may be the result of ancient volcanic activity. Radar observations of Mercury's North Pole have shown surprising evidence of water ice in the projected shadows of some craters which appear to be permanently shaded from the rays of the Sun. The planet is often visible on Earth's horizon just after sunset or before dawn, especially during the Spring and Autumn months..in fact, it is brighter than many stars, but is usually obscured by the haze and dust in the Earth's atmosphere. Mercury rises and sets approximately two hours prior to sunrise and two hours after sunset. It is sometimes possible to view this planet with binoculars or even the naked eye at times, but it is always very near the Sun...frequently lost in its glare and difficult to see in twilight. Like the other "terrestial" planets (Venus, Earth and Mars), Mercury is believed to be composed primarily of rock and metal. It has no known naturally-occurring satellites and it is generally presumed that the existence of any lifeforms is almost certainly impossible.

Mythological

Mercury is the winged Roman Messenger God, known to the Greeks as Hermes, and it is by this alias that the majority of myths surrounding Mercury are known. He was given many of the attributes of a wayward youngster, and was the love child of Zeus and the nymph named Maia, who was the Goddess of Clouds and a member of the Pleides, in addition to being one of the daughters of Atlas the Titan. Born in Arcadia (near the Cyllene Mountain), Hermes grew into a small boy only minutes after his mother laid the newborn baby down to sleep. It is said that the moment she turned her back, he tip-toed out and immediately rustled a heard of cattle belonging to his half-brother Appollo. The Sun God was enraged at this act, but Hermes soon charmed him by playing a tune on the world's first lyre, which he invented on the spot by stringing stolen cow gut across the inside of a tortoise shell. One variation of this story states that Apollo liked the music so much that he traded both his cattle and his shepherd staff in exchange for the lyre, but that despite the trade-off, Zeus finally ordered that the cattle be returned to Apollo. As he grew, Hermes learned to put his quick wit to excellent use. He once rescued Io (one of Zeus' many sweethearts) from a hundred-eyed monster named Argus by playing his self-made shepherd pipes so tediously that he finally put the beast to sleep. It is proably due to his resourcefulness that Hermes became the Messenger of the Gods, endowed with a winged helmet and winged sandals to speed him on celestial errands. He was also known to be the Patron of Tricksters and Thieves.

Hermes was one of many admirers of Aphrodite (known to the Romans as Venus), Goddess of Love and Beauty. Through his union with this lovely Goddess, a daughter was born...Peitho, the personification of Persuason and Seduction. At least two more daughters were born to Hermes and Aphrodite, named Tyche and Eunomia. The couple also had a son, Hermaphroditus, who was welded with the bestotted fountain nymph, Salmacis, into a single body which possessed both male and female sexual organs. Some mythological sources also credit the pair with being the parents of Eros (known to the Romans as Cupid), but this is often disputed. Through a union with Penelope, Hermes became the father of Pan, the celebrated God of Shepherds, and by virtue of yet another liason with Chione, he became the father of Autolycus, the grandfather of the hero Odysseus (known to the Romans as Ulysses). In later myth, Hermes helps to rescue his great-grandson from harm twice during the ten-year, post-Trojan War epic known as the "Odyssey." According to some legends, Hermes is also the father of the Bacchus-like Silenus and brother to Pan, while in other mythological tales, Silenus is credited with being Pan's son.

It seems likely that Hermes was originally an Egyptian deity whose center of worship became known as Hermopolis. There is also evidence to suggest that there were Celtic and early Germanic cults who worshipped Mercury, and his name is credited with being the origin of "Wednesday." In French, this is "mercredi," derived from the Latin Mercurii Dies or "Mercury's Day." On ancient coins, this Messenger God is usually depicted as a clean-shaven young man, often accompanied by his sacred animel, the cock or rooster. The Greeks considered Hermes to be the most clever of Gods. He was credited with having invented the alphabet, the musical scale, astronomy and boxing. Known as the Lord of Travel and Commerce, he was also the Patron of Alchemy...the magic art of transforming base metals into gold. The Romans adopted Hermes into their Panthenon under the name of Mercury around 495 BC and, along with his other duties, gave him jurisdiction over trade and mastery of medicine. Thus, Mercury carried the Cadeuceus...a wand or herald's staff encircled by two entwined snakes or ribbons and imbued with the power to heal the sick and charm humankind into slumber. This staff has since became the modern symbol of medicine. The name "Mercury" itself is derived from the Latin mercari, which means to "deal" or "trade." As one of the favorites of Jove (or Zeus, as he is known to the Romans), Mercury was considered the most entertaining, shrewd and resourceful of Gods. When Jove tired of Olympus (as he often did), he would invariably choose Mercury to accompany him on his forays to Earth, both disguised as mortals. In the City of Rome, a Temple was erected to Mercury near the Circus Maximus on Aventine Hill, which was once the site of a trade fair. Mercury also held jurisdiction over a well near the Porta Capena and a festival in his honor was held annually on May 15, when merchants would sprinkle their heads and their merchandise with water from this well.

In his role as Messenger to the Gods (a duty he often shared with Iris, Goddess of the Dawn) and sometime conductor of souls of the dead into Hades, he was known as the "Guide and Giver of Good." Hermes and/or Mercury is customarily depicted wearing a broad-rimmed traveler's hat or helmet called a petasos or petasus and winged sandals or talaria fashioned from "imperishable gold, which bore him swift as a breath of air over sea and earth." He was also known to carry a purse or money-bag which signified his role as the Greek God of Riches, Trade and Good Fortune, and the Roman God of Trade, Profit, Merchants and Travelers. He assumed the latter duty from the Dei Lucre, early Roman deities of commerce, from whom it is generally accepted that the phrase "filthy lucre" is derived. Among Mercury's favored commercial activities was the corn trade, and his relationship to business and speed survive in such words as "mercurial" and "mercantile." Because of his speed, he is sometimes considered to be a God of the Winds. According to legend, Mercury is credited with having taught the art of prophesy to the Thriae, winged female spirits who lived on Mount Parnassus...taught the curious Pandora the art of persuasion...delivered Zeus' command to Hades to release Persephone so that the mourning Earth could once again bear life...helped Perseus plan the slaughter of Medusa (including giving Perseus the "sickle of admante" with which to accomplish this and personally flying him to the land where the Gorgons slept)...as well as escorting the mortal Psyche to Mount Olympus in order that she might marry Eros. But these are merely small samplings of the numerous myths involving this cunning and quick-witted God.

Each of the astrological planets has its own ancient symbol or glyph, created from different combinations of three basic elements that the early astrologers referred to as the Circle of Spirit, the Crescent of Soul and the Cross of Matter. The glyph of Mercury is comprised of all three of these elements: the Cross (in this instance, representative of Earth), surmounted by the Circle of Spirit and capped by the Crescent (in this instance, representative of personality). The whole is symbolic of the unity of mind, spirit and matter...but giving primacy to intellect. This glyph is also frequently described in less elaborate terms as "Mercury in his Winged Hat."

Heavenly Properties

The constellation of Gemini ("The Twins") is a familiar pattern in the night sky. It is one of the most prominent and the most northerly of the Zodiac constellations. Various cultures have perceived the stars as twins...either as gods, men, animals or plants. Gemini lays in a southerly direction, found above and to the left of Orion the Hunter. It consists of two long lines of stars, each of which is topped with a bright star. Castor (also known as the Alpha Gem) and Pollux (also known as Beta Gem), the two major stars, are close together and farthest to the left of this constellation, representing the heads of the Twins. Castor, blue-white in color, was the first star to be recognized as a binary or double pair, one of which is slightly brighter than the other. It takes approximately 350 years for the fainter star to circle once around the brighter one. Pollux, the seventeenth brightest star in the heavens, is similar in many ways to the Sun. It is about the same color and temperature, but is brighter and larger. Pollux appears as a white star to the naked eye, but actually emits a yellow light. It is rare to have two stars of such similar brightness so close together in the sky. The Ancients considered Castor and Pollux to be equally brilliant, but today, astronomers have noted that Pollux has become somewhat brighter and it is believed that this star may possibly be reaching the point where it expands to a red giant...thus finally ending its life cycle.

During the Winter months, Gemini rises in the east and stands high in the heavens but, as the Summer months approach, it sinks below the horizon. This constellation is visible from the Northern Hemisphere beginning in November and lasting through April. In the Southern Hemisphere, it is visible from December through March. The Geminids, one of the most prominent meteor showers in the heavens radiates from Gemini (the region around Castor), reaching its peak during mid-December. The appearance of this meteor shower was first noted in 1862. The meteor shower Rho Geminids is usually visible from the end of December to the end of January. It was first detected in 1872.

This constellation is home to a number of impressive star clusters, including the "Eskimo" or "Clown-Faced" Nebula, first spotted by William Herschel, who likened it to a person's hooded head. In addition, the Milky Way flows nearby. Excepting Castor and Pollux, other named stars within the constellation of Gemini include: Wasat (whose name means "middle"), a white and purple star located on the right arm of Castor; Mekbuda (also known as the the "Zeta Gem"), which shines with a yellow-white light and has been likened to a lion's folded paw; Alhena (sometimes referred to as "Al Hena"), the third brightest star of the constellation, brilliant white in color and located in the left foot of Castor; Propus, a relatively dim star positioned in front of Castor's forward foot; Mebsuta (one of the heavens' rarities since it is a cool Glass G Supergiant), the constellation's fifth brightest star and likened to a lion's outstretched paw; and Tejat (also known as Dirah), a double star, crocus yellow and blue in color, located in the right heel of Castor. Gemini's nearby constellations (in addition to the already mentioned Orion) are Auriga the Charioteer, Taurus the Bull, Monoceros the Unicorn, Canis Minor the Little Dog, Cancer the Crab and Lynx the Lynx.

The Legend & Myth

The oldest ideas that can be identified with Gemini appear to originate in India, where the constellation was known as "Aswins," or "Twin Horsemen of the Dawn." This notion likely dates back some 6,000 years or so to the time when the twin stars would have appeared just as the sky began to brighten on Spring Equinox mornings. Thus, the "Aswin Horsemen" were believed to be the forerunners of Spring dawn. This concept of the stars being representative of twins apparently spread from India and Persia into Greece, Rome and eventually, throughout the whole of Europe.

Ancient Romans referred to this constellation as the "Twin Brethren" and associated them with the principle of brotherhood considered to lie at the very foundation of the Empire. As protectors of that City, they appeared on all the early silver coinage of the Republic and were often depicted on horseback and armed with spears. Oaths were frequently sworn to the brothers, from which comes the modern, if now antiquated, expression of "By Jiminy!" To the Maya, this constellation was seen as a "peccary," a Central American pig with long, thick bristles, while in the skylore of New Mexico's Tewa natives, this group of stars was part of the story of "Long Sash," being at the place of bifurcation where it was decided which path in life would be followed. Even today, the Tewa people look to Gemini for guidance in life. To the Egyptians, the twins were "Horus the Elder" and "Horus the Younger," while in Babylon, they were known as the "Great Twins." This pattern of stars was always viewed as twins in Arabia, while in China, they were considered to be "Yin" and "Yang," representative of eternal dualism...the two halves of a circle and the contrasting principles of existence. The name "Gemini" is the Latin translation of the Greek Didymoi, or "The Twins." Many potential candidates have been suggested as Gemini's original twins (Romulus and Remus, founders of Rome, for example), but most ancient sources attribute them to being Castor and Pollux (also known as Polydeuces).

In classical Greek mythology, the stars in the constellation of Gemini were named Castor and Pollux, known collectively as the "Dioscuri" or "Sons of Zeus." Although Leda was mother to both, the twins had different fathers. Pollux was the son of the chief Olympian God, Zeus, who had changed himself into a swan in order pursue the lovely Leda. Thus, Pollux was immortal. Castor was the son of Leda's husband, Tyndareus, King of Sparta, and thus destined to die. According to legend, they were hatched from an egg and were were brothers to the beautiful Helen of Troy (over whom the Trojan War was fought) and also brothers to Clytemnestra, Queen of Mycenae. Castor and Pollux were known to be well-educated, strong and daring, while remaining gentle individuals. They were celebrated as healers, physicians and protectors of humankind. Castor and Pollux were also Argonauts, being among the crew who sailed with Jason in the Quest for the Golden Fleece. During that voyage, a fierce storm threatened the mission but abated as a pair of stars appeared over the heads of the twins. Since that time, seamen have called upon the brothers for protection from peril and the eerie lightning phenomenon sometimes called Saint Elmo's Fire has long been regarded as the spirits of the twins playing in the sails. It is considered by sailors to be a most favorable omen. Castor and Pollux were also counted among the number who fought at the Siege of Troy.

Castor (a horseman) and Pollux (a boxer) fell in love with beautiful sisters, daughters of Leudippus, who were already betrothed to suitors. According to the myth, these suitors, named Idas and Lynceus, were reputed cousins of Castor and Pollux by virtue of Poseidon, God of the Sea, who was rumored to be their father. The twins challenged Idas and Lynceus in battle and slew their rivals, but Castor was mortally wounded by Idas in the process. Overcome with grief, Pollux would have committed suicide in order to be with his beloved brother, but since he was an immortal, this proved to be impossible. Finally, Zeus placed both their immortal souls together in the sky as symbols of brotherly love...the precept they had demonstrated so gallantly throughout their lives on Earth. However, this gift did not come without a price. Zeus determined that for the rest of eternity, the twins would have to alternate between the light and the dark...spending one day on Olympus and then the next day in Hades.

Many statues and temples were once erected to Castor and Pollux and they were often carved as figureheads on ships. The Apostle Paul sailed on one such adorned ship from the Isle of Melita during his journey to Rome. Images representing this constellation have been found on both Greek and Roman coins, and the image of the twins also appeared on Babylonian boundary stones as well as charts of the heavens. Known to be handsome and adventurous young men, they perpetuate the memories of a roving and carefree life by acting as the protectors of sailors and of hospitality. Their nature was said to be energetic and volatile, vain, talktative and curious. In modern times, the twins have once again been ingrained in history as a critical part of Earth's journey into space when Project Gemini placed into orbit two men aboard one spacecraft.

Season and Angels

Gemini is a Spring Zodiac Sign (as are the Signs of Aries and Taurus). This time of the year is also known as the Vernal Equinox when the days and nights are of equal length. In the Northern Hemisphere, Spring begins on March 21, while in the Southern Hemisphere, it begins around September 23. However, for the purposes of Astrology, the Northern Hemisphere timeframe marks the beginning of this Season. Spring is the First Quarter (or Quadrant) of the yearly cycle, traditionally associated with the period of new growth and/or rebirth.

In terms of the human life cycle, Spring represents the time of birth to the age of twenty-one...the active period of development encompassing birth, infancy, childhood and adolescence. Governed by the faculty of intuition, this period represents an objective manifestation and has an unconscious orientation. In short, although objective growth is taking place in an external fashion, the internal state remains highly subjective. This is largely due to the fact that Mercury (which rules the Zodiac Sign of Gemini) is classified as an "inner" or "personal" planet, meaning it is relatively small in size as well as being close to the Earth and the Sun. This time of human life also displays an exceedingly subjective or personal orientation. The developing child perceives the world largely as an extension of himself or herself. Apprehension of life is colored by intuition and powerful unconscious drives. The ability of a child to absorb and assimilate impressions of the outside world is truly quite astonishing and, on occasion, the young person will be at the mercy of such powerful forces, not always acting in the most rational or conscious manner.

In general, individuals who fall under the jurisdiction of Spring possess a great enthusiasm for life. The energy here is prodigious in terms of initiating projects and the ability to survive and/or adapt is noteworthy. Frequently more extroverted than introverted, Spring subjects are prone to have a heavy impact on their environment. However, the capacity to dutifully or doggedly adhere to one activity is often lacking. Natives of Spring are fond of sharing their thoughts. They also like to create and produce and, more than those who fall under the jurisdiction of the other Seasons, crave relatively constant appreciation and approval for what is accomplished. A desire for freedom also characterizes many individuals born in the Spring and they may not react favorably to having restrictions imposed upon them. Subjects ruled by this Season need to grow, expand and make their mark upon the world. Spring natives often emit a childlike air their entire lives...innocence, spontaneity and impulse are all inherent traits associated with these individuals. Normally positive in outlook, the Spring individual may well be adverse to overly-serious attitudes and possess little patience for those whose orientations are negative.

Governing Angels

The Archangel presiding over the Season of Spring is Raphael. This Archangel's name means "The Shining One Who Heals" or "God Has Healed," due primarily to the fact that he is said to possess healing hands which cured the Earth when it was defiled by the sins of the Fallen Angels. Raphael is also the one credited with binding Azazel by burying this Fallen Angel beneath rocks in a desert place on Earth. This powerful being is believed to have been an early Chaldean God who came to be recognized by Jewish and Christian scholars as the Angel of Healing. His name may be Syrian in origin, possibly derived from "Rephaim," who were ancient Gods or Spirits of the Underworld and referred to as being gigantic in size. In Hebrew, the word "Rapha" means "doctor" or "healer." Raphael may also be known as Azariah, Angel of Love and Angel of Joy. This Archangel rules the Second Heaven, also known as Raquia. According to Enoch, it is within the Second Heaven that the Fallen Angels are imprisoned in complete darkness awaiting final judgment. According to some sources, Raquia was also at one time the dwelling place of John the Baptist. Raphael shares jurisdiction over the Second Heaven with the Archangel Zachariel. Often referred to a Regent of the Sun, this Archangel is credited (along with the Cherubmims) as being the Guardian of the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden. He is also said to have delivered to Solomon a magic ring which would subdue all demons in order to aid in the building of a temple. In addition, in Judaic lore, Raphael presented to Noah a ring of power and the knowledge necessary to build the Ark. After the flood, a medical book reputed to have been the famous "Book of the Angel Raziel" is said to have been given to Noah by this Archangel. A mystic illuminator and star traveler, Raphael is counted among the first Angels created by God out of Himself and is one of the six great Angels of Repentance, Prayer, Love, Joy and Light. Additionally, he is one of the Seven Spirits who stand before the Throne of the Lord and Chief Angel of the Order of Virtues. According to some sources, he is the Keeper of the Holy Grail and one of the Ten Sephiroth. In the Catholic religion, Raphael is Supervisor of the Guardian Angels.

By tradition, Raphael is depicted in art form wearing the garments of a traveler...something of an astral bard. He customarily sports winged sandals, a broad-brimmed hat and yellow cloak. Typically, he carries a staff adorned with serpents (the Caduceus which is the symbol of medicine) and a golden vial of balm. He also bears a sword or arrow which has been well-sharpened, symbolic of the notion of peace in spite of a troubled world and representative of cutting debris from the mortal mind. Thus, this sword is indicative of an individual's mental will to overcome and associated with protection rather than attack. According to some sources, this weapon is referenced as "the Sword of Peace which lies at the end of the Rainbow Bridge of Faith between God and Man." Occasionally, Raphael is portrayed with the image of Aquarius embroidered on his robe...an indication of insight, truth, everlasting life and the eternal belief in all humanity. This Archangel is sometimes perceived as a young man carrying a staff, a young man carrying a fish or an Angel holding a bottle or flask. Known to possess the happiest disposition of any of the Angels, Raphael is also credited with being the Angel who possesses the most well-developed sense of humor, the greatest amount of curiosity and the angelic being closest to the everyday mortal person. Blessed with a kind and gentle disposition, it is said that the physical presence of Raphael will be accompanied by sparkles or flashes of green light. With the exception of Lucifer, it is generally accepted that Raphael is the most beautiful of all the Heavenly Host. He is also counted among the best-loved of all Angels.

Raphael signifies the strength of healing through knowledge, compassion, giving and sacrifice. This Archangel is a powerful healer who assists with all forms of curative power...both of human and animals, in addition to those wounds inflicted by past lives. He can, if called upon, rapidly heal body, mind and spirit, and will respond to a plea on behalf of another. However, he cannot interfere with such an individual's free will...if the individual in question refuses spiritual treatment, then such cannot be forced. Raphael encourages exploration and connection with the world, urging those who fall within his jurisdiction to communicate and share knowledge...and to heal others by way of thoughts. Raphael spreads widsom through invention and ideas...words and messages conveyed via human messengers and teachers. It is believed that through this Archangel, humankind seeks to understand the workings of the world and all it has to offer. He issues the challenge for mortals to hold onto their souls equally as strongly as they cling to ideas, thoughts and ideals. Customarily invoked to aid in global or personal healing on any level...from disease to abuse to addictions...Raphael does not appear in the Hebrew Scriptures and, in the Septuagint, only in the Book of Tobias. Excepting the Archangels Michael and Gabriel, he is the only Archangel mentioned by name in the Bible.

Raphael rules over the spirits of mankind and is particularly associated with human understanding, knowledge, chemistry, medicine and the protection of travelers. Said to touch the minds and thoughts of mortals, he is also referred to as the Bringer of Faith. This Archangel governs physical bodies and also rules communication, understanding and science. In addition, he is the overseer of the evening winds and may be called upon to help those who are searching for lost pets. Raphael affords particular protection to travelers, which includes assuring that all transportation, lodging and luggage details go miraculously well. In addition, he helps with inward spiritual journeys, assisting in searches for truth and guidance. Much of this Archangel's healing work involves spirit releasement and space clearing, and he often works with the Archangel Michael to exorcise discarnate entities and escort away lower energies from people and places. Governing Angel of Spring and all the necessary energies that create the Season.
In addition, Spring natives fall under the jurisdiction of Spugliguel, the Head of
Spring. To begin the Season, the assistance of both Milkiel and Spugliguel is
necessary. Amatiel, Carascara, Core and Commissoros are also Angels associated with
the Season of Spring, acting as its Guardians. Gemini natives share these Celestial

Moon Influences

Moon Influence

The position of the Moon in a horoscope is second in importance only to the position of the Sun. In astrology, the Moon is indicative of personality, individuality and the unconscious. It represents instinctive reactions and the side of an individual that will respond to a given situation without prior thought or consideration. Based upon the theories of Sigmund Freud, it is the id, whereas the Sun sign of an individual is the ego.

In many respects, the Moon personality is one which a person keeps hidden and may even represent a nature considered to be somewhat disturbing, uncivilized, primitive or animalistic. In short, the Moon personality is an individual's inner core...the area which experiences hate and jealousy, is brooding and fearful and may indulge in fantasies that a person will deny even to himself or herself. Nonetheless, this Lunar influence is usually a somewhat subtle one, relating to a personality which is beneath the surface. It can also reveal much regarding the manner in which an individual was nurtured and cared for...as well as how he or she perceives his or her mother.

In a horoscope reading, the Moon modifies the Sun sign, bringing into play new forces, different motiviations and special elements to the character of an individual's Sun sign. The effect of a person's Moon sign can significantly decrease or increase the tone of a Sun sign. Since the Moon itself is feminine, its influence seems to affect females more strongly than it does males. In the man, the strength of the Moon influence tends to indicate senstivity more than any other facet of the personality. The Moon travels through all twelve Zodiac signs during every twenty-eight days.

Moon in Aries

The Aries Moon is an unstable and uncomfortable Moon, since Aries is a Fire Sign and the Moon rules Cancer, a Water Sign. This is a gregarious, generous and optimistic Moon, where opinions are decisive and forceful. The Aries Moon is also a high-strung and controlling Moon, as well as being spontaneous, energetic, friendly and honest. It suggests an aggressive attitude, quick temper, impulsiveness and brutally forthright behavior...the tendency to act through emotion rather than reason. The attitude of the Aries Moon is restless and risk-taking.

In general, those with the Moon in Aries are likely to be spontaneous and excitable. Such individuals are also militantly hostile in their expression of anger and maybe be prone to periods of irritability. These are self-reliant characters who want to have everything their own way, refusing to be pushed around by anybody. Those with the Moon in Aries are self-disciplined and balk against any who would impose discipline upon them. These characters are usually either intensely liked or disliked by others due to their impulsive behavior. Moon in Aries individuals like to take charge and will probably rise to positions of authority in their chosen careers. Being natural leaders, they set the pace and terms for themselves and will likely chose their own vocations, regardless of any advice offered by friends and relatives. The relationship between an individual born with the Moon in Aries and his or her parents may be a difficult one since there is a distinct lack of both sympathy and communication. The actions of these individuals are perceived by others to be impulsive and unexpected. The Moon in Aries is a good sign for those who enjoy originality, adventure, independence and a military life. Such persons may be attracted to studies in the occult or mysticism and possess a great desire to harbor secrets. Impatient, with the need to act immediately and consider the consequences at a later date, those with the Moon in Aries find it difficult to understand opposing viewpoints. These are quick-thinking characters with a love of the instantaneous and a tendecy to become bored with minor practical details. Straight-forward in nature, the Moon in Aries person is very much a "what you see in what you get" type of individual with a wonderfully warm heart most of the time and a desire to comfort those in need of solace.

The Gemini Sun/Aries Moon combination produces a mentally quick, witty and versatile character...one who is mobile in both mind and body. These individuals are naturally alert, active and aggressive. At their best, Gemini natives governed by an Aries Moon possess a very ambitious nature and assert themselves in a positive and confident manner. These persons make for a fun companion and a dangerous opponent...particularly in a "battle of words." Intellectually motivated with an inclination for study and education, there will always be a desire here to stay up to date through study and the gathering of information on vital topics. Thus, these Gemini subjects generally have a vast arsenal of information, stories and quips, usually making them the "life of the party" at social functions. Gemini persons ruled by an Aries Moon will go far in life simply because of their natural popularity and aptness with regard to human relations. The chief problem these individuals will face is that they can rely too much on wit, cleverness and quickness in preference to serious application. Nevertheless, others will instinctively follow these Gemini natives due to the fact that they appear to know exactly where they are going and how to get there. Sense of balance and direction here will often be based upon a whim of the moment rather than logic and forethought. However, these individuals make for exceptional leaders because they are so sure of themselves and inspire confidence in those around them. Gemini persons who fall under the jurisdiction of an Aries Moon are especially shrewd in business matters...albeit in a "wheeler-dealer" type of way...and, in this area, can display a rather selfish side since, while being social creatures, they never forget to "look out for number one." Emotionally, there is nothing very deep or profound about the Gemini Sun/Aries Moon combination. These are characters who know what they like and what they do not like, and it is difficult for anyone to tie them down for very long. Gemini individuals with the Moon in Aries need to be constantly in motion...both physically and mentally.

Moon in Taurus

The Taurus Moon is a positive and practical Moon. This Moon possesses a sharp artistic sense but is deliberate in reaching decisions. The Taurus Moon tends not to be aggressive but instead, is rather good-natured, accenting the need for security and the necessity of saving for "a rainy day." However, this Moon may also be prideful, stubborn and jealous.

In general, those with the Moon in Taurus are, in a word, conservative. They tend to fear anything outside the norm. However, they are deeply moved by things of beauty. Totally lacking in impulsive behavior, such individuals strive for success in a conservative manner and by investing much hard work into the process. Nevertheless, those with the Moon in Taurus tend to attract good company and usually end up with more than their fair share of wealth. In fact, no matter what type of work these individuals undertake, they will usually receive a financial reward in the end...even if the vocation is not considered by others to be worthy of the individual's abilities or standing in the community. Neither of which usually bothers those governed by the Moon in Taurus, whose occupation is often surrounded by something of an aura of mystery in any event. Moon in Taurus people harbor a love for things that are old and well-established. They are generally sociable souls and actually quite sensual in nature, although there is a tendency toward the materialistic in terms of relationships. These individuals often possess a good speaking and/or singing voice and have a natural attraction to the theater. Moon in Taurus persons enjoy making new friends and like to join clubs or other social circles. Emotionally stable and strong, these individuals form loyal bonds of friendship, but any change is usually perceived as a threat and may lead to the revealing of a somewhat jealous streak. These people will go to any lengths to preserve what they already possess and have even been known to test relationships to find out whether they will stand up to the challenge. Stability and continuity are vital to the Moon in Taurus person, together with a desire for traditional values and the occasional outmoded way of being. It is necessary for the Moon in Taurus individual to feel very secure and he or she will put up with more than most in preference to giving up at the first encountered hurdle.

Moon in Gemini

The Gemini Moon is an intuitive Moon...a rapid learner operating on a mental plane. This is a rather charming Moon with magnificent speaking and writing talents. This Moon struggles to maintain independence and tends to be high-strung...at times, a restless and somewhat confusing combination. However, the swift mental activity of the inherent Gemini character coupled with the emotionality of the Moon causes feelings to be held in too much scrutiny. The Gemini Moon expresses emotions in an uneven and inconsistent manner while harboring a direct need to speak the truth.

In general, those with the Moon in Gemini like to exercise both body and mind. Their time is usually divided between studying and socializing. They may live in more than one place or change residence quite often. In short, these individuals like to move around. The Moon in Gemini is excellent in terms of intellect and those who fall under its jurisdiction are inevitably attracted to the literary and the scientific, which tends to indicate that the chosen vocation will also be somewhat intellectual...writer, teacher, journalist or scientist, etc. However, the influence of Gemini usually leads to the changing of careers as often as it leads to the changing of residence. Gemini's theme will continue through the life of this individual...he or she may be ambidextrous and will probably find it easy to do two things at once. Those with their Moon sign in Gemini are not always honest people, particularly in their dealings with those around them. However, they are usually so proficient at deception, that others rarely realize they have been hoodwinked. The Gemini Sun/Gemini Moon combination produces what could be described as a personality of very high voltage electricity. This will not be a steady and smooth flow of electricity, but rather one composed of static charges which are constantly active and bound from one place to another. This energy can be channeled, but usually not for very long. No matter how hard Gemini natives ruled by a Gemini Moon might try, they are not apt to "burn a hole" of concentrative intensity through anything. These individuals possess tremendous mental capabilities and the sole impeding factor in their lives may well be the lack of willingness (or ability) to focus on personal interest and direction. These Gemini subjects feel comfortable with their abilities...whether it be physical or mental...but fail to feel comfortable by themselves without anyone to talk to and be with. Under such circumstances, the innate high-strung temperament immediately takes over, resulting in fidgeting, worry or restlessness until someone comes along to calm them down. Gemini Sun/Gemini Moon persons are usually avid readers, but not especially deep students. Being great talkers, they are glib, facile, witty and clever. The Gemini Sun/Gemini Moon individual will have a great head for business or law since emotions do not generally play a role in decision-making and thinking.

Moon in Cancer

The Cancer Moon is a sensitive, patient and devoted Moon. This Moon possesses literary and/or artistic abilities coupled with a sharp memory. The Cancer Moon learns and expresses everything through emotions and harbors a strong desire to be a nurturer. This Moon is likely to have heightened psychic abilities, although life itself is lived within a series of mood swings. The Cancer Moon is prone to the expression of insecurities in a smothering, possessive and/or jealous manner.

In general, the personality of those whose Moon sign is in Cancer will be very similar to those individuals whose Moon sign is in Taurus. Both combinations are very fond of relaxation and satisfaction. However, those individuals with Cancer as their Moon sign are different in that they lack the stability and/or stubborn character provided by Taurus (unless, of course, the person in question happens to have Taurus as his or her Sun sign). The personality of the Moon in Cancer subject is rather supple and flexible. This will be an emotional character whose surroundings play a large role in his or her mood. However, when the environment proves to be less comforting, they tend to hide themselves. Basically inherently conservative, those whose Moon sign is in Cancer tend to be very close to their families...in particular, the mother. Here, there may well be a strong attachment and very often, both mother and child will share many personality traits. Generally, accepting advice from others and following through on the plans of others will bring good luck to the Moon in Cancer person. These are people perceptive of the feelings of those around them and they frequently prove to be good actors or mimics. Blessed with an inherent sensitivity, the Moon in Taurus subject is often psychic. What their quick intellect does not pick up on, their emotions do. These are persons who have a greater ability to concentrate than others who fall under the jurisdiction of Gemini. However, keeping the mind focused is the key to controlling an ever-present problem with nervous tension. If at all possible, Gemini Sun/Cancer Moon subjects should concentrate fully on some study or pursuit. In this manner, problems with nerves frequently disappear. But, if the mind is allowed to dwell upon personal issues and petty problems, then these individuals may well find themselves becoming progressively more subject to tensions. Gemini persons who are ruled by a Cancer Moon have a great need for peace, quiet and stability in life, and it is important that these be established at an early age. The apparent "happy-go-lucky" nature of Gemini Sun/Leo Moon individuals conceals a core of sound good sense...just as the apparent fickle quality of this blend hides a deep-seated loyalty and fidelity. These persons will be changeable in many ways, but when they settle upon a person or course of action, they stay settled. The mind here will turn from one subject to the next and from one relationship to another but, sooner or later, the wavering and fluctuating will cease and this Gemini subject will establish himself or herself. These Gemini subjects are regarded as "straight-shooters" and their air of efficiency is quite impressive. Although their expression may be pointed, it is never vengeful in a heavily emotional way and they are rarely intentionally mean or unreasonable. Gemini natives who fall under the jurisdiction of a Virgo Moon will be sociable and entertaining souls, possessed of an intensely dry sense of humor and wit. It may not always seem so, but these are rather serious individuals and, if they can force themselves to stick to a job, can accomplish much...particularly if the project involves use of the mental processes. The mind here is sharp as the proverbial tack, coupled with the logic and facts to back every move. Unfortunately, Gemini natives ruled by a Virgo Moon are likely to enjoy explaining their theories and plans more than executing them. Developing the ability to relax and be satisifed in the world can greatly help these individuals.

This is considered to be a very favorable combination with regard to making influential friends and pursuing some type of professional career. However, these Gemini subjects do not have much taste for really hard work...particularly if it requires much concentration and sustained effort. They lead active lives, invariably combining business and pleasure to good advantage. Gemini subjects governed by a Libra Moon are independent souls and dislike the feeling of being "beholden" to anyone or any obligation. While these individuals can force themselves to undertake just about anything, nobody else will have much luck in trying to stimulate a sense of duty or obligation. Life is never dull for these persons because they stay so busy either traveling (which they adore), socializing, working and/or playing. Although somewhat high-strung, these Gemini natives rarely stay in a depressive mood or state for very long. Expressive, artistic and able to communicate on a variety of levels, these are natural extroverts. Indeed, Gemini subjects who fall under the jurisdication of a Libra Moon may be such a good conversationalists that their stories become very detailed, complex and long. Romantically, these are rather fickle individuals who are extremely demanding of total justice in all personal relationships.

Moon in Scorpio

The Scorpio Moon is a mysterious Moon. This Moon is strongly motivated by feelings while remaining most adept at hiding true emotions. It is a Moon of great willpower and good judgment, but one which never forgets a good or bad deed. The Scorpio Moon is one of the more difficult Moons, often having to face and conquer more obstacles than the other Moons. It is prone to aggressive and dominating behavior in addition to being wilful and stubborn. The Scorpio Moon possesses strong beliefs which will likely be expressed in a passionate manner. This Moon is one of secrecy and personal independence coupled with heightened intuitive and psychic abilities. However, the Scorpio Moon can be jealous and distrustful, believing that the sharing of feelings leads to vulnerability.

In general, the personality of those whose Moon sign is in Scorpio may be one which harbors a feeling of misunderstanding by others. Fighters by nature, those ruled by the Scorpio Moon are usually hot-tempered and stand alone in their battles. They fight with assurance and confidence. However, there is a tendency for such people to bring out in themselves the very things they are fighting against. Persons governed by the Moon in Scorpio will be full of energy with a tendency to express themselves in a rather blunt manner. While such individuals might declare they are "okay with change," it is a somewhat different story inside and they are actually quite conservative, resisting change...particuarly any change which is forced upon them. When such people do change their minds on an idea, they fully stand behind it and help to implement the change. In reality, Scorpio is probably one of the most misunderstood of the Zodiac signs and individuals who fall under the jurisdiction of its Moon are inclined to act out of irritation or anger. In short, these people like to get revenge. Others may perceive those ruled by the Scorpio Moon as lacking in a strong moral code, or that they drink too much, but the truth is, such individuals are truly possessed of a strong willpower and much determination. However, there is also a massive love of pleasure and those governed by this particular Moon will be quite familiar with the subject of pleasure. There is a strong attraction to the opposite sex...and vice versa. Those governed by the Scorpio Moon share many of the characteristics of those ruled by the Moon of Capricorn. Both subjects have boundless energy, a lack of control in certain life areas and oftentimes, trouble with the opposite sex. This could cause a great deal of strife throughout life and more than one marriage is highly likely. The Moon in Scorpio is also closely related to death and the occupation of an individual ruled in this manner might well be so related...policeman, fireman or soldier, for example. Passion and intensity will be paramount in any relationship which involves those who fall under the jursiction of the Scorpio Moon. There is also an ability to inspire others here, for such subjects will never shirk in the face of unpleasant situations and are perfectly capable of speaking up for the underdog. Individuals of the Scorpio Moon know no fear and will refuse to be put off by the views of society when it comes to choosing friends or partners. However, there is a distinct tendency to keep many emotions "under wraps" and others may be unaware of this individual's true feelings until he or she "lets rip" at the last straw. Time alone is very important for those ruled by the Moon in Scorpio...it is necessary in order to process feelings and come to terms with some of the injustices of the world. These are people with a strong moral conscience who, when hit by tragedy, will survive to return again...scarred, but ready to face life. The strong intuitive powers and psychic abilities of Scorpio Moon individuals enable them to see below the surface.

The Gemini Sun/Scorpio Moon combination produces an intellectual quickness and emotional depth which makes for an exceptionally forceful, magnetic and versatile character. These subjects are especially quick and active while being extremely receptive and tuned-in to those around them. Surprisingly, these exceptional traits may not necessarily mean that such persons will be the leaders that others believe them to be. Despite these strengths, Gemini natives who fall under the jurisdiction of a Scorpio Moon are easily persuaded and influenced...sometimes even led astray or distracted from doing what they might be capable of accomplishing. Never opposed to taking a chance or going "out on a limb," these individuals find sensationalism appealing, which is often reflected in actions and perhaps in the choice of friends. These are persons who may expend a good deal of their energies in chasing personal pleasures rather than keeping their "nose to the grindstone." They can pursue any project with a vast amount of intensity, but never for a long period of time. If they are not careful, problems can arise with these Gemini subjects due to overindulgence and the tendency to have "too many fingers in too many pies." Gemini natives governed by a Scorpio Moon are not usually very careful by nature, but there is little they could not accomplish if they can manage to harness both the mental and emotional aspects of the personality, resulting in a pulling together toward the same constructive direction.

Moon in Sagittarius

The Sagittarius Moon is a clear-thinking and quick-minded Moon. This Moon will set goals and have no problem in attaining them. However, there is a tendency to overspend because of the overwhelming belief that things are there to be bought and enjoyed. Basically, this is a charming Moon with a deep love of travel. It is also spontaneous, freedom-loving and optimistic. The Satittarius Moon prefers not to be tied down and, by nature, is a kind and gentle Moon. This Moon has a deep desire to learn and pursue intellectual activities.

In general, the personality of those whose Moon sign is in Sagittarius will absolutely adore the great outdoors. There is an immense love for the feeling of freedom here. Others perceive Sagittarius Moon indidividuals as active with a fondness for travel and sports...not to mention the air of joviality (derived from Jove or Jupiter, the Ruling Planet of Sagittarius). However, when such individuals are not outside, they often appear restless in every sense of the word...physically, mentally, intellectually and emotionally. These are people who act first and think later, a trait which is usually most apparent..and harmful...during conversation. Such individuals say whatever is on their minds, put simply and in a rather blunt manner. In short, they are far from diplomatic and should avoid careers where diplomacy is a must. Indeed, with regard to occupations as a whole, there is a tendency to change employment frequently or have more than one vocation. Overall, Sagittarius Moon persons are usually good-natured, kind and honest. They are perceptive of others' emotions and, if someone is hurt, may even take it personally. Nevertheless, there is an obvious short temper associated with those governed by this Moon although, on a more positive note, they are also quick to forgive and will hardly ever hold a grudge. These individuals make for good teachers due to their perspective on life and are able to perceive the possible outcome of events long before they ever occur...hence the oftentimes favorite phrase of those who are ruled by the Sagittarius Moon: "I told you so!" The intuition here is strong and the dreams of such people frequently come true. This could possibly indicate a psychic influence, but with the Sagittarius Moon, nothing is ever sure. These people are simply unable to stay in one place for very long since the desire for movement is well-nigh overwhelming. Independence is greatly valued by Sagittarius Moon persons, as is freedom of spirit. They are adaptable and attract many friends who warm instantly to the inherent gregarious nature. Not necessarily materialistic, the Sagittarius Moon subject feels that experience will always count for more than the acquisition of objects. There is a firm belief in justice and fair play here, coupled with a desire to help out anyone who is in need, or who has been treated unfairly. Perhaps the worse fault of those ruled by the Sagittarius Moon is that of over-optimism and it will be necessary to learn a realistic approach through experience and the lessons of life.

Those who ask will be told in no uncertain terms what this Gemini subject thinks of them...and there will be no omissions for the sake of tact and diplomacy. These persons need to learn that holding the tongue does not necessarily equate to the sacrifice of integrity...it is simply a showing of good sense.
